Women's Alliance in STEM and Humanities

01

Workshops

WASH hosts several interdisciplinary one-day workshops throughout the school year to expose students to guest speakers, recent scientific developments, growing fields, offer specialized support, and more. Some of our past workshops have included: Standardized Testing for Specialized School and an Intro to Computer Science.

02

Summer Research Institute

The annual SRI selects cohorts of students to be trained by the WASH mentors in specialized areas over the course of six weeks, all culminating in a final capstone research project. This summer, students in the Finance+CS course made their own fintech application, the Quantum cohort explored different applications of quantum technology, and the Microbiology course conducted professional literature reviews.

woodrow wilson middle school stem day!

wash worked with the woodrow wilson STEM club to host an in-school field trip featuring sci-bowl contests, DIY water filtration devices, and student-made rover races.

"I was proud of presenting myself as a fast learner and engaging myself into working on my own project called "Investment Tracker". Not only did I expand my knowledge in programming, but I also had a chance to use formulas we have learnt during the course. I was inspired by the idea of coding a program, which would free people from making mistakes while preparing for the investment. Because of my logical code, it is easier to predict the profit a person is going to gain in the end of the investment. I am happy to say that I enjoyed the course, as I did all the homework and studied hard."
